The Oil Sands Discovery Centre is offering an exciting range of science-themed camps this summer for students from Kindergarten to Grade 6. From doing exciting experiments to gaining new science skills, these camps have something for everyone.
This year, we are running three week-long camps and three one-day camps on select Saturdays throughout the summer. Please see camp descriptions for times and prices. Drop-off and pick-up are up to 30 minutes before and after the times listed.
2026 Camp Descriptions
Kindergarten to Grade 1
These camps run for a half day and let children going into Kindergarten and Grade 1 make some amazing discoveries. These camps run from 9:30 am to 12 pm.
Floating Fun
Make a splash as you explore the science of water! Test how much weight a tinfoil boat can hold before sinking, find out why ice floats, and discover why oil and water don't mix as you dive deep to discover the coolest facts about water!

- Cost: $18 per participant
Full S.T.E.A.M. Ahead!
Discovery amazing and wonderful activities that combine the powers of art and science! Use shaving cream and food colouring to make marbled artwork, build your own shadow puppets, and tie dye with permanent markers. Come and learn why science and art are better together!
- Dates: August 10-14
- Cost: $90 per participant
Grades 2 and 3
These camps are designed for children going into Grades 2 and 3. The camps run from 9:30 am until 3:30 pm.
The Magic of Science
How did they DO that? This camp is all about the mysterious marvels made possible through science. Make paper clips defy gravity, turn dark liquids clear, and make clouds in jars as you find the magic just waiting to be discovered in the world around us.

- Cost: $140 per participant
Boreal Biologists
Learn about the unique and interesting ways animals live in the boreal forest! Solve puzzles like ravens, make dams like beavers, and identify the footprints of animals found right around Fort McMurray as you explore the way animals behave the way they do!
- Date: August 8
- Cost: $28 per participant
Grades 4 to 6
These camps are designed for children going into Grades 4, 5, and 6. The camps run from 9:30 am until 3:30 pm.
Target Practice
Hit your mark as you build and test devices designed for accuracy! Create catapults, bounce laser lights through an obstacle course, and parachute precious cargo as you use math and physics to hit the bullseye!

Forces of Nature
Come and investigate the mightiest forces on Planet Earth! Build weather devices, discover the shocking power of electricity, and see how water changes the Earth's surface through erosion. Hold on tight during this dynamic camp!

- Cost: $140 per participant

To register, please complete the registration form and email it to osdc.education@gov.ab.ca. Please note that this is only a registration request. A spot has not been reserved for your child until you have been contacted by the Oil Sands Discovery Centre. Requests will be processed in the order that they are received. Please note that it may take up to one business day to reply to your request.

To register by phone, contact the Centre at 780-743-7167 and leave a message. Email registrations will be processed first, followed by phone registrations. Please note that it may take up to 48 hours to return your phone message. We appreciate your patience.
